The Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne

Completed May 2014Client: Probuild

LTC Contractors was contracted to provide comprehensive civil works and demolition services for the $45-million redevelopment of Melbourne’s iconic Shrine of Remembrance.

Our expert Melbourne demolitions team delivered a range of civil contracting services during the project, such as detailed demolition including soft strip interior areas as well as heavy structural elements.

LTC Contractors rose to several challenges to successfully complete the demolition works at such a high profile and historic building, without compromising the existing structure.

During the demolitions process, our civil contractors worked in confined spaces and dealt with ventilation issues as well as noise and dust control. We worked with mobile plant equipment in an enclosed area while carrying out demolition works of underground support structures and back-propped a 50-tonne stone staircase without any movement to the shrine structure.

The project also involved demolition of structural columns without any allowance for movement in the supported shrine structure, and placement of a new structural RC beam to support the structure once the propping had been removed.

Other Melbourne demolition services we provided included removing material from the underground area and thorough  remediation works which surveyors monitored onsite every day. Material removal from underground area

As one of Melbourne’s premium large-scale demolition contractors, underpinning one of the most important structures in Victoria was something we took a lot of pride in.
